Sort out an overflowing inbox: which AI agent to use
Researched, hands-on test pending
Our top pick: Copilot in Outlook (Microsoft 365 Personal). This write-up is based on research from public sources; we haven't tested it hands-on yet and will update this page when we do. Prices were checked on 31 October 2026 and can change.
Top pick: Copilot in Outlook (Microsoft 365 Personal)
- Official site: www.microsoft.com/en-gb/microsoft-365/buy/compare-all-microsoft-365-products
- What it does: Copilot sits inside Outlook to summarise long threads and draft replies.
- Rough UK price: £8.49/month or £84.99/year (Microsoft UK, Oct 2026)
- Free tier: A free Copilot chat exists, but Copilot inside Outlook needs a paid Microsoft 365 plan. One-month trials are offered on some plans.
- UK caveats: AI features are for the subscription owner only and can't be shared on Family plans. Usage limits apply.
- Don't use it if you are: Gmail users who don't want to move to Outlook.
Alternative: Gemini in Gmail (Google AI Pro)
- Official site: one.google.com/intl/en_uk/about/google-ai-plans/
- What it does: Helps proofread and draft in Gmail, and can summarise emails.
- Rough UK price: Google AI Pro £18.99/month
- Free tier: Not inside Gmail; the free Gemini app is separate.
- UK caveats: Google's own page says the 'ask your inbox for an AI Overview' feature is US only, so UK users get less than the adverts suggest.
- Don't use it if you are: Anyone on a tight budget; it's the priciest way to get inbox help here.
